The Travelin' Photogs: Angkor Wat

Welcome to the 8th Wonder of the World. Angkor Wat recently earned this accolade, "beating" Pompeii as an addition to the list. What we didn't realize is that Angkor Wat is only ONE of SO MANY temples clustered in the heart of Cambodia, near the city of Siem Reap. Meticulous preservation and restoration work is ongoing at this nearly-1,000-year-old site, which translates to "City Temple". We spent two days here, one day exploring on foot, the next by bike. It was so hot. So so hot. Little did we know that April is the hottest month in Cambodia, so March was not far off.

Experiencing the region by bike is THE way to go. It was surreal biking through the jungle, and touring the temples in a way that avoided cars or crowds. Our guide, the biker in front of Joe, is named Seyha ... also known as Mr. Handsome.

This is Ta Prohm, or The Tomb Raider Temple, named after the Angelina Jolie movie. Trees were growing EVERYWHERE. Truly a remarkable site.

It was HOT. But it was a requirement that shoulders be covered on temple grounds.

Joe got blessed by a monk!

Children can start learning the monk way of life at 7 years of age!

Beware the monkeys! Just as our bike guide finished telling us about the dangers of greedy monkeys ... we encountered THIS on our ride back to town. This woman just stood by as a monkey consumed the bag of mangoes she was carrying.
