The Travelin' Photogs: Thailand

A trip to Bangkok is not a trip to Thailand. In the way that a trip to NYC is not a trip to America. Both awesome cities, both a small taste of what lies beyond. Our first stop in Thailand was to Kanchanaburi and Erawan Falls, a 7-tiered system of waterfalls and pools experienced via a three-mile hike – and swim! Watch out for monkeys, snakes and Water Monitors (a Water Monitor is not a lifeguard. It's basically a Komodo Dragon – or a small dinosaur.) Our next stop was to the bustling Bangkok. We got the sweet upgrade at an already-luxurious Okura Prestige Hotel, swam in the high-rise infinity pool, met the charismatic Chef Hnoi for a food tour, saw the Emerald Buddha, and survived multiple car and bus rides.

Joe was stoked about our sweet ride to Kanchanaburi.

Rice paddy.

The Bridge on the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi ... from above.

Erawan National Park! First hike ever where life vests are required!

Waterfall #1.

Swim buddies.

Many sights and smells of Thailand reminded me of growing up in CA ... like the bougainvillea in Kanchananuri :)

Just to the right was a Thai band singing 90s covers in English.

The drivers in Thailand are bananas.

Welcome to Bangkok!

Okura Prestige Bangkok.

Chatuchak Market ... where you can buy ANYTHING.

Yes, this dude was tossing scoops of coconut ice cream about to get attention. It worked ... I bought some.

Hnoi! Chef Hnoi was a highlight of our Thailand visit.

This is Joe's OMG SO GOOOOD face.

This stand was basically the Whole Foods dinner-by-weight bar equivalent.

AMAZING coconut ice cream.

Price conversions ... food, about $1, underthings, about $2.

Saying goodbye to our food-tour guide extraordinaire from the train.

Joe takes a very necessary dip after a day of walking the market. SO HOT.

A reflection of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. This woman had no idea what I was saying or what I was trying to do, but she loved the photo.

Shoe drop.

Just outside the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, visitors can take a lotus flower, dip it in the provided water, and douse themselves in it. Some would drink from this vessel and proceed to meditate and/or pray.

Sorry ... no pictures allowed in the sacred temple. But I got to see the Emerald Buddha!
