The Travelin' Photogs: Cambodia

Sandwiched between two well-traveled countries – Thailand and Vietnam – Cambodia sits proud and poised for visitors. I'd like to say it's the best kept secret in Southeast Asia, but Cambodians want the secret out! Admittedly, I don't know if we would have travelled here if we didn't have family living in country. But despite the LONG journey to get there, and other destinations calling us, we would 100 percent visit Cambodia again.

We started our journey in Phnom Penh, and then journeyed by bus five hours north to Siem Reap, home of Angkor Wat – a city in itself. (And a whole other blog post forthcoming!)

When you see a picture, but someone else is in a better spot to shoot it – props to my sister Julie for this image.

Over 90 percent of Cambodians are Buddhist. Lots of monks going about daily routines.

Peppercorns in the raw at Ptes Bay Madam Kitchen Restaurant!

A flower vendor at Boeng Keng Kang Market in Phnom Penh.

My sister, our Cambodia host :)

Traffic laws are merely a suggestion ... kind of like here in New England.

Our welcome platter at the SO incredible Golden Temple Boutique. Highly recommend this Siem Reap hotel.

Siem Reap.

Pretty cool to see raw sugar cane!

We decided that we have only ever seen American chickens, and this is what chickens actually look like.

This is the grocery store – there are several outdoor shopping experiences (markets), but this is the locals market. Cambodians have a real connection to, and knowledge about, where their food comes from.

Siem Reap food tour. This is Jared, one of our guides. He moved to Cambodia 20 years ago for PhD work, and never left! Now he has the greatest job ever.

Fara, our other tour host offered a native Cambodian's perspective to the sights and tastes on our food tour.

Pub Street, the tourist market. Amazing energy here, wish we had more time to explore.

Some helpful links!
